Ignition coils are an integral part of modern engine management systems which have increased in complexity as engines are developed for better economy and greater power management. The ignition coil replaces the traditional distributer and works in conjunction with other electronic engine management parts to deliver power to the combustion chamber through the spark plug. The most asked question regarding ignition coil failure is how do I know when an ignition coil goes bad? Often its hard to know where to start with so many individual parts in the system. The most obvious answer to that question is the check engine light will illuminate, and a code reader will display the error code assigned to the ignition coil. There are however a number of other signs that can be noticed even before the check engine light shows up that will indicate the coil is faulty.
